New Tehri: Former state Congress president Kishore Upadhyay has announced the opening of the first Tehri Rural Premier League (TPRL) cricket championship at a press conference on Wednesday under the aegis of the Rural Sports Foundation and the Tehri Rural Sports Foundation. He said that it will start from Tehri assembly constituency as a Palayat project. The top performing talent in the championship will be promoted at the state and national level.
He said that the matches would be organized at the village, region, district panchayat and municipality levels. TPRL will remain completely away from party politics. Its purpose is to provide a platform only to the youth of the villagers. Discussions are being held with Uttarakhand Cricket Association and national level experts. TPRL will provide prize and trophy of Rs 1 lakh 51 thousand to the winning team, Rs 1 lakh 11 thousand to the runner-up team, 21 thousand to the third-placed team and Rs 21 thousand to the fourth-placed team. There will be no charge to join the contest.
Upadhyay said that teams will be provided in kits and dress free. The 30 best players of the championship will be selected for the 15-day training camp. The instructors of the best academy will train. In the championship, prize money of Rs. 3100 will be given to the winning team at each district panchayat level, Rs. 2100 to the runner-up team. In the competition, about 101 teams of all the more than 180 villages and urban areas of Tehri Vidhan Sabha constituency will be registered free of charge. On this occasion, Vikram Singh Negi, former MLA of Pratapnagar welcomed the initiative of Kishore Upadhyay.
