Ahmedabad : The brilliant bowling of England all-rounder Ben Stokes (2/33), fast bowler James Anderson (2/19) and spin bowler Jack Leach (2/43) on Thursday marked the second day of the fourth Test being played at the Narendra Modi Stadium here. Got into trouble in the first innings. India have scored 153 runs for six wickets till tea time and are still trailing by 52 runs. Rishabh Pant is at the crease by scoring 36 runs with 62 balls and three sixes and Washington Sundar with one run from 13 balls till the break.
Earlier, India started playing on 24 runs for one wicket on the second day. But Leach lbw Cheteshwar Pujara lbw, giving India a second blow. Pujara hit a four off 17 off 66 balls.
Soon after, Ben Stokes dismissed Indian captain Virat Kohli by catching him at the hands of Ben Fox without opening the account.
After Kohli’s dismissal, Rohit led the innings with Ajinkya Rahane but just before the lunch break, Anderson gave India a fourth blow by getting Rahane out of the Stokes. Rahane scored 27 runs off 45 balls with the help of four fours.
In the second season, Rohit tried to pace the Indian innings with wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant. Rohit was playing well but then Stokes ended up lbw to Rohit’s innings.
Rohit scored 49 runs off 144 balls with the help of seven fours and he missed a half-century.
After Rohit’s dismissal, Pant and Ravichandran Ashwin batted hard and tried to get the team out of trouble.
Ashwin, however, returned to the pavilion by giving an easy catch to Ollie Pope on the ball of Leach. Ashwin scored 13 runs off 32 balls with the help of two fours.
