Patna / Gopalganj: Nine of the 13 convicts in the Khajurbani illegal liquor case along the Uttar Pradesh-Bihar border in Gopalganj district of Bihar were sentenced to death by Gopalganj ADJ-2 on Friday. On February 26 last month, 13 people were convicted.
The accused who have been convicted in this case include Kanhaiya Passi, Laljhari Devi, Nagina Pasi, Rajesh Pasi, Sanoj Pasi, Sanjay Pasi, Indu Devi, Kailasho Devi, Lal Babu Pasi, Ranjan Chaudhary, Munna Chaudhary, Rita Devi and Lal Dhari is the goddess. Among them, Sanoj Pasi and Sanjay Pasi are absconding.
The corpse came out from house to house in Khajurbani
On sixteen August 2016, the corpse was coming out from house to house in Khajurbani locality in ward number 25 of Gopalganj. All of those who died were from poor families. Some were running the family’s stomach by running a cart, while others were selling vegetables. There were voices of shouting from every house. After such a number of deaths, no man outside the locality could muster the courage to go there. Many people had lost their eyesight from poisonous liquor. Most of the deaths were from people of Nonia Toli, Purani Chowk and Harkhuan locality.
After this scandal, there was a stir from Gopalganj district to the state headquarters. All the officers of the district, including the then District Magistrate and the Reserve Superintendent (SP), were sleepless. To investigate this, the then commissioner of Saran division, IG of Tirhut area and principal secretary of excise department was sent by the government to Gopalganj.
