Today, the establishment of Trinamool has completed 23 years. It was formed today as a regional party in the year 1998 under the leadership of the fiery leader Ms. Banerjee, but now it holds its place as a major force in national politics. In the general election held in the same year, the party participated in the elections for the first time and won eight Lok Sabha seats from the state.
After the election of 1999, Ms. Banerjee became the Minister of Railways and held this position till 2001. Meanwhile, in the year 2000, Trinamool contested Kolkata Municipal Corporation for the first time and won most of the seats. For the first time, the Trinamool candidate also became the Mayor of Kolkata. In 2001, Trinamool contested the assembly for the first time and won 60 seats. The Trinamool is currently ruling in Bengal.
