Maha Shivaratri fast will begin on Trayodashi Tithi, in which fasting will be kept for the whole day without any hindrance. Devotees worship and ask for blessings from Lord Shiva before completing their fast. According to Hindu scriptures, Maha Shivaratri Puja is performed four times during the night on Chaturdashi. These four bars are also known as Char Pahar and it is believed that worshiping during these times frees a person from his past sins and blesses him with salvation. It is compulsory to perform Shiva Puja only during the night and it should be done after sunrise before the Chaturdashi date ends the next day. Maha Shivaratri symbolizes the union of Shiva Shakti.
