New Delhi : The hearing on the UP government’s demand to send Mukhtar Ansari back to Uttar Pradesh has been postponed. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta on Tuesday sought to postpone the hearing, after which the court deferred the hearing till tomorrow.
In this case, the UP government has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court. The UP government has said that ten cases of heinous crime have been registered against Mukhtar Ansari in Prayagraj’s MP-MLA court. The UP government has said that the Banda Jail Superintendent has handed over the Punjab Police without the permission of the MP-MLA court. The UP government has said that several warrants have been issued against Mukhtar Ansari several times. Ropar jail officials continue to call him sick.
The UP government has said that the charge sheet has not been submitted in the Mohali case for two years, yet Mukhtar Ansari is not seeking bail there. The UP government has said that the Supreme Court should use its special power in the interest of justice. The UP government has also demanded transfer of the case lodged in Mohali to Prayagraj, demanding that Mukhtar be sent back to UP.
Mukhtar Ansari has been lodged in Ropar Jail in Punjab for the last 2 years. The Punjab government is opposing sending Mukhtar to UP. During the hearing on 8 February, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had said that the Punjab government says that Mukhtar Ansari is in depression and he has not filed a bail petition in Punjab because he is happy in the jail there.
