St. John’s: The left-handed explosive Chris Gayle of the West Indies cricket team has said that he is ready to bat at any number in the upcoming T20 series against Sri Lanka. Gayle is making a comeback to the West Indies team after two years.
Gayle has been identified as an opener. However, he batted at number three in the Indian Premier League (IPL) last year. Gayle batted in third place for Kings XI Punjab (now Kings Punjab) in the 13th season of IPL. Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul started the innings in the team.
Speaking to a sports website, Gayle said, “I think I have now become an expert batsman of number three. In the IPL, coach Anil Kumble gave me this responsibility. He talked to me about this before the IPL started. I got a chance and I did my work which has been said. The team management wanted to take advantage of my experience as Rahul and Agarwal were doing well as an opening pair, so I batted at number three. ”
He said, “There is no problem for me. I can play both spin bowling and fast bowling well. I am ready for any responsibility that I have in West Indies cricket. I can open. I can also play at number five or say that I am ready for every kind of situation. Though there is no talk about this from the team management, but I am ready for all kinds of challenges. ”
Gayle has played 413 T20 matches for the West Indies, including a total of cricket leagues across the world, in which he has scored 13691 runs at an average of 38.35. His highest score in this format is an unbeaten 175 runs while he has scored 22 centuries and 86 fifties in this format.
