New Delhi : The Supreme Court has given a big verdict today (March 5) on the controversy over Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan starrer web series ‘Tandava’. The Supreme Court has given a huge relief to the commercial head of Amazon Prime Video, Aparna Purohit, and has stopped his arrest. The Supreme Court has asked Aparna Purohit to cooperate in the investigation. Aparna had applied to the Supreme Court after the anticipatory bail plea from the Allahabad High Court was rejected. The court issued notice on Arpana’s plea and granted him relief from his arrest.
Hearing on the bail plea of Aparna Purohit, the Supreme Court on Friday said that there is no provision in the new rules issued by the central government for OTT platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video for imposing penalty or prosecution. Such content cannot be controlled without proper law enforcement. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that he would present the law in the court within two weeks.
A statement was also issued by Amazon Prime India recently on the ‘Tandava’ controversy. The company said, “Amazon deeply regrets that the audience found some imaginary scenes of the recently released series Tandav objectionable. This was not our objective. Amazon India has said that the scene that was in dispute has been removed and slightly edited. Amazon continued, “We respect the diverse beliefs of our audience and apologize unconditionally to those who have been hurt by these scenes.” Our team follows the content appraiser of the company, which tells us to serve our audience better. ‘
